The Webster Thomas Courier won four awards — including the highest level for online publications — in the Empire State Scholastic Press Association competition 2017. The awards are all connected to work that was done during the 2016-2017 school year. Student journalists, including current staff members, students currently in the Journalism class, and students interested in communications as a career, went to ESSPA’s annual conference Nov. 3, at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Publication Communications.

The Webster Thomas Courier won a gold in the “Best All-Round Publication” category, online publications. Ryanne Rizzo, class of 2017, won a gold award for her “Back to School with the Thomas Titans” video. Senior Nicole Lundahl won a Silver Award for her book review, “A youthful story of community and identity.” And Ash DeCann, Brianna Belec, Timothy Fletcher, and Nico Pantojas won a Newspaper Honorable Mention in the category of Editorial.
